The ‘next’ President of the United States of America: an Aussies perspective

Who will be the next American President and for whom would we vote, are questions Australians often asked; increasingly so lately. Observing from ‘here’ in Australia, whats going on “over there” in America, has always been of interest.
What’s currently going on ‘over there’ is an ever unfolding catastrophe!
This writer has argued elsewhere that Australia supports America sustaining a world leadership role, on issues of global significance commensurate with its superpower status. Australia correctly expects America to lead and provide inspiration on how to solve global problems e.g. addressing climate change, an issue so critical to the survival of humanity and the planet. Yeh, good luck with that! We’re talking about Trump!
If we accept that ‘humanity’ has caused this soon to materialise catastrophic destruction of the worlds environment, we should already be ‘half way’ to solving this ever urgent problem. Right?
Well, in the case of the current American President, Donald J Trump, he don’t believe this scenario because he don’t believe the science! We know this because he has proudly told us so. But then gain, can we ‘really’ believe what this uncontrollable distorter of truth and reality actually says? “I didn’t say that; I was misquoted; its all the fault of the enemy of the people, the terrible media.” Heard this before? Sound. Confusingly, didn’t this world leader tell the American people in his own scientific words that he “loves science, real interesting stuff, fascinating stuff”. I don’t believe him, and neither do the majority of Australians. In fact, other then our sycophantic positions I have never hear spoken about him.
Unfortunately for the worlds environment this ‘science loving’ President has actioned his beliefs by withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement and systematically dismantled America’s climate change initiates.
Even more unfortunate is that President Trumps ‘new’ best friend Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro (the Trump of the tropics’), has enthusiastically followed Trumps lead, by also not accepting the climate change science. Remember, he’s the President who announced on national TV that it was ‘evil’ environmentalists and not his business associates who were burning down the Amazon forests. This arsonist crime was apparently being committed by the environmentalists as a means of raising awareness of the wholesale destruction of Brazil’s forests, the ‘lungs of the world.”
American leadership and inspiration is even more critical in this ‘world war’ on the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazingly, even the self-anointed ‘war President’ believes it is a ‘world war, a war this egomaniac has no no idea how to fight and even more alarming no intention in fighting. Well, not the virus!
So how do my fellow Australians ‘rate’ the leadership and inspiration of this ‘war-President’, in this mammoth fight against COVID 19?
Not good.
Trumps world leadership role has been an abject calamity! We need go no further to evidence this assertion then Trumps decision to ‘defund’ the World Health Organisation. This global agency, tasked with fighting pandemics is defunded by its main benefactor, in the middle of a world deadly pandemic. What was her thinking? Oh, there’s that word again, ‘thinking.’
Leaders who have followed Trumps lead on fighting the pandemic e.g. once again, Brazil’s President who has shown little inclination in wavering from his insistence that COVID-19 is a relatively minor disease, and that broad social-distancing measures are not needed; are actually destroying their own country, the very one they are employed to protect!
“I don’t do miracles” says Bolsonaro when talking about his country’s fight with the pandemic. His inability to ‘do miracles’ and blindly following Donald Trumps rhetoric, has resulted in Brazil’s morbidity rate rapidly escalating. Brazil currently has 10,000 COVID-19 relate deaths, taking it to third position in global ranking for deaths.
How do Aussies ‘rate’ Americas ‘fight’ against the pandemic currently raging across the US?
Again, not good.
Australians are increasingly alarmed at America’s disastrous handling of the current health and resulting economic crisis, so graphically engulfing all fifty states of the Union. The US is now officially a world leader in both infections and COVID-19 related deaths, with more then 100,000 COVID related deaths so far. This grim ranking will be hard to surpass. Given that “anyone who wants a test, can get a test,” should be some indication of how many America’s have been tested for the virus? We are proudly told by the White House, just over 4 million at last count.
What can I say? I’m not lost for world, well not yet. Those numbers tell it all. There are apparently three hundred and thirty million Americas who are not so concerned about this life threatening virus, to bother getting a test! Australians are! Well you would expect that from Aussies, Australia is not a superpower. One and a half million concerned Aussies out of a total population of 24 million concerned, if not terrified Aussies, have been tested so far.
Australians are witnessing on their TV screens an American President literally murdering thousands of his own people, through his negligence and barely disguised indifference.
Day in, day out, we are seeing footages of an avalanche of avoidable premature deaths, engulfing the United States. Thousands and thousands of people dying, almost before our very eyes! Thousands buried in mass graves! Waves of unemployed America’s waiting in lines at food banks! First-responders, doctors and nurses, begging for protective equipment! What happened in America’s aged care homes? Did America just forget about its most venerable?
It’s like in a war zone! But unfortunately, it’s not a war zone! This is mass murder, happening in Main Street America! There’s no ‘war time’ President leading his forces into battle to protect his people. These is just a catastrophe!
America! whose President casually shifts his rhetoric from “it’s all under control”, “it will just fade away”, “there’s only a few deaths; anyone who wants a test can get a test”, to making the startling claim “we’ve done a fantastic job, ten-out-of ten”, “there could have been two million deaths, even two and a half million”, when he saw COVID related deaths across America, accelerate.
Nothing to see here! All under control!
Is President Donald J Trump so delusional that he thinks the world believes he has done a ‘fantastic job’, ‘ten out of ten’? I’m not sure. Perhaps he is just not interest in what Australians or the world thinks or believes. It’s how his ‘base’ thinks, that concerns this failed leader. Only those who fawningly work closely with this President, can possibly answer what President Donald Trump thinks, and when, if ever! Should be a fascinating dissertation.
Trust me, Australians think Trump is an shocker! A complete idiot! Australians believe this shady businessman known as ‘Donald Frisk’ on Wall Street, has really screwed up! Badly! No amount of skiting about doing a ‘ten out of ten job’ can change that assessment.
In passing, in can assure readers Aussies have the same unflattering view of His Excellency, President Jair Bolsonaro, as we do of Trump. He’s also is an idiots!
But what would Australians know? More then 85% of ‘us’ wanted Hillary Rodham Clinton to replace President Barack Obama at the last election. As of today, Australia has one hundred and one COVID-19 related deaths! How this was achieves is perhaps for another time.
Not since the influenzas pandemic of 1918, that infected 500 million people world wide, killing at least 50 million, including 675,000 in Americas, has this global force of nearly three hundred and thirty million citizens, the Unites States of America, been confronted with such an existential threat to its very existence; certainly not so far this century.
What about climate change, isn’t it a greater existential threat? Australians believe it is despite the poor leadership of our ‘flat earthers’ conservative government who have now dropped their mimicking of Trump, when half the country was burnt down earlier this year. If the world remains largely ‘broken’ through the impact of this pandemic, there will be little enthusiasm for tackling the pressing issue of climate change! Have you heard much discussion on this topic recently. I haven’t; we’re all trying to just stay alive!
There are few indication that this world crisis and America’s own self inflicted crisis, will improve in the forcible future. All predictions are that it will only accelerate, with the reopening of economies. Even more so for America, faced with the onset of the harsh northern winter.
I’m not sure how most Americans regard this ‘screenplay’, but the Australians I know, they know; it’s alarming! So who do they think will be the ‘next’ President of the United States of America? Well Aussies believe that President Trump’s performance in battling the pandemic through to November three, ‘should’ determine whether or not he is defeated by Joe Biden in this years Presidential election.
Joe Biden, “isn’t he already the Vice President” my confused questioner asks!
No! it’s actually Mike Pence, a man who walks in Gods footsteps.
